WMS Integration Fears - Make the Right Decision

WMS Integration Fears

When you are considering a warehouse management system solution (WMS), its only logical that you will want to select and implement the best solution for your business. However, the IT department may prefer, and want to choose a limited or inferior WMS solution offered by your current ERP or Commercial Software provider. Why?

Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that one out. Lets think it through. We've seen first hand the scenario where the ERP provider wants the additional revenue and may also see it as an opportunity to "develop" a WMS System for the client on the back of their ERP offering. In our experience this never works out well for either the client or the ERP provider due to a lack of "warehouse" operational knowledge - being expert in financial and order processing software doesn't make you an expert in warehouse management! I can't count how many failed "bespoke", so called, WMS solutions we've replaced over the years where businesses have thought they're "taking the easy way out".

The ERP supplier, in an attempt to corner your investment will sometimes sow seeds of doubt, uncertainty and fear in your mind with horror stories about attempts to integrate a specialist WMS software system with ERP. The IT Manager worries that they will be accountable and responsible for any perceived issues should they choose an independent WMS, or worse, it may end their career. They also worry about additional workload being placed on the already overburdened IT Department. These fears are passed on to the stakeholders and this sometimes has resulted in taking the so called "easy route" to WMS and ultimately an inferior solution that doesn't tick all the boxes. After all what are you looking for and buying, an easy integration, or the best WMS that suits your business needs.

These fears are of course completely unfounded, and even worse these misconceptions will most likely deter management from choosing the WMS solution that will provide the business with the best return on investment.
