Putaway transaction in the warehouseDexterity WMS Putaway

Putaway is the action of putting product away into stock locations, e.g. racking, slots, bins, floor areas etc. The putaway function in Dexterity WMS is configurable and generally rules-driven.

For example:

  • Open Putaway: Allows user to put any SKU in any location
  • Prime Locations: Directs user to specific locations defined by SKU
  • Zoning: Directs the user to locate SKU in a specific zone
  • Space Managed: The system evaluates the available space in the warehouse and directs the user to the preferred location

Using wireless scanning terminals means that all putaway activity is recorded in real-time and verified, as the operator will scan the location barcode on the rack or bin etc.

Dexterity WMS Location Management Table:

Location Management: Location Management is a strong feature of Dexterity WMS. Locations can be in racking, bins or general storage, receiving or marshalling areas in the warehouse or factory. Locations are given a reference which is used to track and manage the location of inventory items and pallets. Locations can be given a “cube size” which the system can use to efficiently manage the available space in the warehouse.

Quarantine Locations: Locations can also be set-up as “Quarantine” locations i.e. product cannot be moved or picked from these locations until authorised in the main system by management or supervision. These locations can be used for products that are damaged on receipt, sub-standard after quality checks, out-of date, etc.
